Questions for the first call
A certificate and a sale statement tell you who to call. These are the questions that decide whether a lot from Italy works for you.
Used cooking oil
- Is the oil sold to third parties at all, or used or passed on inside the seller's group?
- Which site would load the lot, how often, and in what lot size: IBC, tanker or bulk?
- Free fatty acids, moisture, impurities and sulphur: what does a typical lot test at, and who tests it?
- Is the lot recorded in the Union Database, and which scheme certificate covers the site that loads it?
- Does it leave the country as waste with shipment documents, or with end-of-waste status?
Category 3 animal fat
- Which category is each fat stream, and is any of it sold for feed or pet food first?
- Free fatty acids, moisture, impurities and polyethylene: what does a typical lot test at?
- Which plant loads the lot, and in what lot size?
- Which scheme certificate covers that plant, and is the fat recorded in the Union Database?
- Is any of the fat burned in the plant's own boilers, and how much is left to sell?
Crude glycerine
- Crude or refined: what glycerol, MONG, water, ash and methanol content does a typical lot have?
- Is the glycerine sold to third parties, or used inside the group?
- Which plant loads the lot, how often and in what lot size?
- Which scheme certificate covers the producing plant?
How it counts in Italy
- Used cooking oil, EU rule (no national rule reviewed for Italy): Used cooking oil is an Annex IX Part B feedstock across the EU: its contribution to the transport targets is capped. Source: Directive (EU) 2018/2001, Annex IX Part B (consolidated 16 July 2024), read .
- Category 3 animal fat, EU rule (no national rule reviewed for Italy): Category 3 animal fat is not an Annex IX feedstock: Part B lists only categories 1 and 2. National rules decide how it counts. Source: Directive (EU) 2018/2001, Annex IX Part B (consolidated 16 July 2024), read .
- Crude glycerine, EU rule (no national rule reviewed for Italy): Crude glycerine is an Annex IX Part A feedstock (advanced biofuels) across the EU. Refined grades are not listed. Source: Directive (EU) 2018/2001, Annex IX Part A (consolidated 16 July 2024), read .
These are the rules where the material is sourced. Rules differ by the market you sell into and change; OxyLens shows the reviewed rule for your market, with its source and date.
How to read this map
Reviewed source. A seller, or a group selling from several sites, with a physical role in Italy: collection, storage, pretreatment or production. OxyLens researched it from public and official records before counting it.
Reviewed sale statement. The seller's own website says it sells the material, and OxyLens has read and dated that page. Without one, the sale is confirmed on the first call.
Weekly certificate recheck. Where a source holds a scheme certificate, OxyLens reads the issuer list every week, so a certificate that ends or is withdrawn shows on the next check. The supplier certificate check shows what a check reads.
Not counted. OxyLens researches every certificate holder found in the issuer lists. Buyers only, offices and other paper-only roles with no physical site, and lapsed holders are kept out of the counts, and so are holders with neither a published contact nor an official record of their site. The app lists every holder it did not count, with the reason.
7 of the 69 counted sources in Italy have no contact route recorded yet: OxyLens has not found a published email, phone or contact form for them. They are counted because an official record, such as a waste register entry or a permit, shows the site and gives its postal address.
Used cooking oil buyers in Italy
Selling fryer oil from a restaurant or a small kitchen? A licensed local collector picks it up, often for free or for a small payment. OxyLens does not collect oil.
For tanker and IBC lots: OxyLens research counts 7 plants in Italy that take used cooking oil as a feedstock, each company counted once.
| Plant type | Plants |
|---|---|
| Biodiesel | 4 |
| HVO, SAF or co-processing | 3 |

Coverage and limits
Certified and documented sellers are mapped; the rest are not. A collector or renderer with no scheme certificate and no public evidence of selling is not on the map.
A certificate is not an offer. Lot size, quality, price and willingness to sell to you are confirmed on the call.
